Contortionist Samora Squid joins us

Samora Squid (pictured) swallows swords and bends his body in bizarre ways. His performance partner Bridget Bridge is a pain-proof strong woman and together they make up Circus Horrificus. Jennifer Vuletic joins us

Jennifer Vuletic has appeared in Mamma Mia, Menopause the Musical and Cafe Rebetika. This week she's at The Butterfly Club to present "Gin & Razorblades" which she describes as a hilarious cabaret for the cynical, the damaged, the misanthropic and the suicidal. Jennifer stars as Ivanka, the Eastern Bloc's Miss Haversham. And she'll join us in The Cabaret Room.

Kimberly Dark is our special guest

Lesbian performance artist and story teller Kimberly Dark of Hawaii is in Melbourne for performances of "Good Fortune" at The Butterfly Club and "Dykeotomy" at Hares and Hyenas Bookstore. Kimberly is a writer, mother and professor, and she's been named one of the 25 "Best of the Best" LGBT speakers and performers on US college campuses by Campus Pride. Join us to hear from Kimberly about her life and work.

Gillian Cosgriff, Joe Black and Elyjah McLeod join us

Award winning cabaret star Gillian Cosgriff (pictured) is presenting "Waitressing... and other things I do well" at Chapel off Chapel. Joe Black is from the UK and he's bringing his rather dark show called "Sex, Drugs and Vaudeville" to the Butterfly Club. And Elyjah Mcleod is a singer and showman who grew up gay in Victoria's western district and discovered his voice in a grain silo. His show at the Bocskai Hungarian Club is called "Cabaret of the Soul". They all join us in the studio for a chat.

Director Roger Hodgman is our special guest

Roger Hodgman was Artistic Director of the Melbourne Theatre Company (MTC) for twelve years. He's directed theatre, opera, musical theatre and TV drama in Australia and internationally for over 30 years. He's currently working as director on the new Aussie musical Strange Bedfellows. We'll talk to him about the Stephen Sondheim shows he's directed for the MTC and the Production Company, Sweeney Todd, Assassins, A Little Night Music, Into the Woods and Follies. And we'll also talk to cabaret legend Jon Jackson about his show What the World Needs Now, which is playing at Downstairs at Alma's.

Spring Awakening Special

Spring Awakening is described as "an electrifying fusion of morality, rebellion, sexual awakening and rock & roll that is thrilling audiences across the world like no other musical in years". The premiere production won 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Score and skyrocketed Glee's Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff to stardom. Monash Uni Student Theatre and Monash University Academy of Performing Arts are presenting Spring Awakening as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival and we're joined by two of the performers, Tom Halls and Jacob Thomas, who share their insights into the production. Be warned, this show contains adult themes and occasional coarse language.

Blake Bowden has appeared on stage in Dirty Dancing, The Boy from Oz, Jekyll and Hyde, West Side Story and The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber. He's also a finalist in the Rob Guest Endowment and will perform with the other finalists at Her Majesty's Theatre on Monday 10 October.

Dean Bryant is co-directing Cole Porter's Anything Goes for The Production Company. Josie Lane has just done a season of Josie in the Bathhouse at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. And Matthew Robinson has won a Churchill Fellowship and is heading off to New York to work with composer Stephen Schwartz. All three of them join us in The Cabaret Room tomorrow night.

The Cabaret Room goes Triple X

There's a special treat tomorrow night on JOY 94.9. For the 1st time ever The Cabaret Room has combined forces with Triple X for 4 whole hours, kicking off at 9pm. Barb from Triple X will join Paul, Chris and Peter to present an A-Z of the hits of the mid 70s to the mid 90s, from Abba to Zebra, Cold Chisel to Yazoo, you'll hear the best of disco, power ballads and much, much more. Plus there'll be interviews with Magnormos Artistic Director Aaron Joyner about the John Bucchino show "It's Only Life" and with performer Jon Jackson who'll be at The Butterfly Club from Feb 24th - 27th.

It's a bumper night for guests on this week's show. Justin Clausen talks to us

Justin Clausen is a young man who combines classic Cole Porter numbers with more recent songs by Abba and Kylie Minogue to produce refreshingly unique and entrancing laid-back jazz. We'll talk to Justin and to Kylie van der Veer about Adrienne Angel. Adrienne is an American voice coach who has worked with Bernadette Peters, Cher and Kenneth Branagh along with many others. She's coming to Melbourne to give a week long Masterclass between Monday 28 March - Friday 1 April 2011. We'll play tracks by Eartha Kitt and David Campbell, and our featured composers are Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, who wrote Ragtime.

Meet the new owner of The Butterfly Club, Simone Pulga

On this Sunday's show I talk to Simone Pulga (pictured) about taking ownership of The Butterfly Club. Simone was born in Italy and has worked as a dancer and a teacher and he also composes music. I'll be joined in the studio by my friend Neil who is a cabaret aficionado who knows all the best cabaret venues in London and New York. We'll be playing tracks by Neil's favourite artists and I'm going to throw in a track from The Boy from Oz which I saw last night and loved! Tune in at 9pm on Sunday night.
