Salute to Barbra Streisand

In JOY 94.9’s Cabaret Room this week we salute Broadway’s premier composer and lyricist, Stephen Sondheim, and one of the most versatile and successful recording artists of all time, Barbra Streisand. I’ll speak to Margot Fenley, the Coordinator of the Music Theatre Program at the Victorian College of Arts and Music, and two of her students, Andrew Doyle and Hugo Chiarella, about their upcoming performances called ShowBites. All this and a couple of Paul Capsis tracks as well. Tune in at 9pm on Sunday.

UMMTA presents William Finn's A New Brain

The University of Melbourne Music Theatre Association presents A New Brain, by William Finn, between 22 and 30 October. Members of the cast will join us in The Cabaret Room tonight to talk about the production. It's an all Aussie show this week with our featured composer Peter Allen. We'll also play tracks by Christine Anu, Genevieve Lemon, Chris Coleman, and Caroline O'Connor.

The 2011 Melbourne Cabaret Festival will take place from Tuesday 19 to Sunday 24 July 2011. Organisers Neville and David from The Butterfly Club (pictured) are now accepting submissions from producers and performers.

Alex Rathgeber joins us in The Cabaret Room

Alex Rathgeber (pictured) has just returned from Seoul, Korea. This Sunday night he joins us in The Cabaret Room to talk about his career and his show, Experiment. Our featured composer is George Gershwin and we'll also play some Ella Fitzgerald and Mandy Patinkin tracks. Tune in at 9pm tomorrow.

The Cabaret Room First Episode

The Cabaret Room will debut this Sunday evening at 9pm. I'll be talking to Mark Jones (pictured) about The Beautiful Losers who are performing at The Butterfly Club on Fri 15, Sat 16, Fri 22 & Sat 23 October. I'll also be speaking to dancer and choreographer Paul Malek about his sexy new show Climax, which opens at Theatre Works on Thurs 14 October. As well I'll feature the music of US composer John Bucchino and some tracks by Rhonda Burchmore and David Hobson. Plus I'll review the Magnormos production of Anyone Can Whistle.
